In 1972, Jackie was twenty-two years old, married twice, and divorced once. After she maneuvers her way out of her turbulent second marriage, Jackie learns that her baby daughter, Jenny, is profoundly brain-damaged. Rather than institutionalize her, Jackie decides to care for Jenny by herself. Jenny’s pediatrician tells her to be sure and include a social life. She works two jobs to pay for Jenny’s mounting medical bills: one as a cocktail waitress on weekends and the other as an office girl at Cessna during the week. Every obstacle seems to work itself out—until it doesn’t. Despite her sin and naivety, God patiently draws Jackie to Himself through Jenny.
